Hypothesis: a Theatre Lab is a Kansas City based theater company founded in December 2023 by Erik J Pratt and Jamie Lin Pratt. A new 501c3 non-profit production company, striving to change the way theatre is done. In order to tell the stories that need to be told, we have to ask YOU what should happen! We will experiment with each production, testing our hypotheses through community feedback sessions and adjusting the parameters based on our findings. Cast, crew, and audience members will be able to see their input make actual changes to the productions and inform what shows will be performed in the future!

Values Statement

  1. Respect - We believe that everyone deserves respect regardless of ethnicity, sex, gender, orientation, age, ability, or creed. We define respect as the due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, and traditions of others. Hypothesis treats all participants (staff, volunteers, performers, sponsors, vendors, and patrons) with respect and expects them to do the same. The only opinions or beliefs that we will not respect are those that infringe upon the rights and wellbeing of others.
  2. Diversity - Hypothesis believes that the best experience is created with diversity, inclusivity, and intersectionality. This is more effectively achieved by giving special consideration to members of marginalized groups, as their voices are so often suppressed. In order to achieve true diversity, we need to create more safe spaces for POC, disabled, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized individuals, both as creators and participants.
  3. Professionalism - Everyone deserve an experience that is worth the time, money, and effort spent to participate.
  4. Transparency - In an effort to remain accountable, Hypothesis practices, policies, and procedures should be available to the public.
  5. Community - All boats rise in a tide. Hypothesis aims to support and promote businesses and productions that share our values, both locally and abroad.
